I had a task to recreate a pub called 'The Star & Garter' in Royal Leamington Spa. The aim was to do it with in a 1 week time frame. The maximum number of texture maps for the building was three at (2048 by 2048 texture resolution). Additionally, the maximum number of texture maps for the 3D models was two (excluding any decals or dirt textures). This task was a challenge for me. I had to be time efficient in terms of how long I spent doing the 3D modelling, in order to give myself time to do texturing at a later stage. On the first day of the task, I gathered primary photos and real life measurements of The Star & Garter pub in person. By doing some photography, it gave me a wide range of reference images to access from, that may not of been possible from Google Maps. An example would be the balcony or close-up shots of the front entrance. I created all my texturing from scratch using Substance 3D Painter and Substance 3D Sampler. I did some photogrammetry where I took my primary photos and made them into tile able materials. Credit goes to Quixel Megascans for using the foliage due to the time restraints on the building task. Foliage was to show set dressing as part of being an environment artist. The game engine I used for doing the lighting and rendering was Unreal Engine. Adobe Photoshop was mainly used for creating decals and applying stencils to the building work (texturing stage).
If I had more time on this project, I would focus on creating the foliage or spending more time on 3D models for wear and tear on the texturing stage.
I enjoyed doing this building task and has helped me improve a lot as an artist.
